And now it's war...

...against humanity! That's right folks, those birds you slaughtered to extinction a long time ago & forgot about, are alive & well here on the Moon. In fact they're training at my camp for their big comeback to reclaim the skies. They're stronger, tougher & madder than Hell!
See this chart behind me? It shows man's vulnerable areas, VERY important to know when capturing & killing for food & sport. Sound familiar?

PASSENGER PIGEON WIPED OUT

In the recital of man's inhumanity toward other creatures, no tale is more shocking than that of the passenger pigeon. It was easy, really. By 1855 New York City alone ate 300,000 pigeons a year. All over the United States & populated Canada, professional trappers, shooters & pickers flourished, speeding their catches to market the new-fangled railway trains. Their nesting locations in Michigan alone were said to have yielded 2,400.000 adult birds & a thousand TONS of squabs. This taking of the young hastened the bird's extinction.
Also, between 1866 & 1876, 12 million brooding pigeons were slaughtered, which meant that their young died of abandonment if they too weren't taken for meat. By the early 1900's only a few pathetic captives survived. The last passenger pigeon died in a Cincinnati zoo in 1914.

THE GREAT AUK- SLAUGHTERED TO EXTINCTION

Once it abounded along the Atlantic coasts & islands, from Newfoundland & Iceland as far south as Florida. On shore where it nested, it was an easy catch. Jaques Cartier on his 1st voyage in 1534 salted down 5 or 6 barrels of the birds for his ships. By about 1830 only a few remained in Europe, where museums were now clamouring for them.
And so one morning in June, 1844, driven by a museum reward of 100 kroners( about 30 dollars), 2 men went ashore on an island near Iceland & killed the last 2 auks on earth. They ran but uttered no cry & offered no fight, for they were gentle birds.

DODO EXTINGUISHED

Portuguese sailors( who called the bird duodo, or simpleton ), Dutch sailors & British sailors came off their ships, ignorant, rapacious & hungry. They clubbed the naive slow-running birds by the hundreds, & ate them. Pigs & rats from the ships ate the eggs. Before the end of the 17th century, the dodo was gone.

Bird of the day...

This my friends is a free range chicken. Born & raised without the use of any artificial growth enhancers. Raising beef, pork & poultry in an environment with ample space, nutritious natural feed, plenty of fresh water & clean air provides a healthy, stress reduced environment. On the Moon, as it is on Earth, animals are much more susceptible to sickness & disease if they are stressed out & run down.
Therefore, free range beef pork & poultry that are free of antibiotics, artificial growth enhancers & have never been fed feed containing animal byproducts; are not only healthier but much happier too. As you will be too when you make humane food choices when choosing meat. And by the way, that handsome fella in the picture...Was absolutely delicious!
Anyways, find out more on how YOU can support your favourite animal today! The humane way. Check out this link: www.freerangemeat.ca

Final- E

Yoo-hoo! Guess who? It's me Birdseye, you know , the leader of the SkyPatrol? Ha, ha, that was me many , many , incarnations ago actually. Back in the Egyptian days. They were great! I used to eat scarabs & wear tons of black eye liner. The head dresses were a bit much though.
I tell ya' it's great to be alive here in the 21st century. Any ways the pictures a little dark but the shawdow box frame is actually adorned in green & brown feathers. Can you you guess what kind of bird has feathers like that?
And that my friends concludes the final episode of "le shadow box" series. Did you figure out the complete shadow box message? That's right- it spells BIRDSEYE!!! Have a nice weekend. Will see ya'll soon with more cha-razay anticdotes!
In lunar luv, toodles!
Sincerely,
B.E

Birdseye & the letter E

My twin sister decided to join me in this shadow box tribute to the letter E. She's from the dark side of the Moon, that's why her feathers are black. Mine are white because...you guessed it I'm from the light side of the Moon! Excellent!!!

The Letter S

Is special! Stands for so many spectacular words. Some in paticular, such as, a shadow box saved my life! Seriously! Long story short, a glass shelf broke & almost sliced my head off. But luckily for me one of the shadow boxes I was working on fell & blocked the jagged piece of glass, preventing it from decapitating my lil' bird head!
ANYWAYS!!! Have a sunshine day! Sing out loud & go for a swim!
Smooches! Sincerely,
Birdseye

Today in the parsley garden...

Look who I found hiding, eating all the parsley. It was a Papilio polyxenes; more commonly known as The Parsley Worm. Can you see him? After he eats the parsley he forms a cocoon & then turns into a beautiful black & blue butterfly. Isn't he neat? Actually, he was absolutely delicious, what a treat! Ha, ha, ha...
